Media Manhunt: Romanowski Says Tusk Is “a Loser” in Dealing with Persecution of Poles

“I think Prime Minister Donald Tusk isn’t quite coping with the manhunts against Poles,” said former Deputy Minister of Justice and PiS MP Marcin Romanowski. He was commenting on the actions of the ruling authorities targeting opposition politicians.

“There’s an ongoing mainstream media manhunt for Zbigniew Ziobro in Budapest. Just minutes after going live with Marcin Romanowski, cameras suddenly appeared. The minister tore into the prime minister, saying he doesn’t know how to handle a manhunt,”

reported TV Republika journalist Łukasz Żmuda.

The former Deputy Minister of Justice was asked on a street in Budapest what he thought about Zbigniew Ziobro’s now-famous words at the beginning of the parliamentary term, when Ziobro addressed politicians of the ruling coalition, expressing hope that they would not turn out to be “losers.”

“I think Prime Minister Donald Tusk isn’t quite managing these manhunts against Poles. I think Mr. Maksymilian Schnepf wouldn’t be proud of him, so in that sense, yes – one could say he’s a loser,”

Romanowski replied.

Last year, the Hungarian government granted international protection to PiS MP Marcin Romanowski under the 2007 Asylum Act. He is being pursued by the Polish prosecutor’s office in connection with the Justice Fund case, during which he was even unlawfully detained, as he held valid immunity from the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, and the court ordered his release.

In December of last year, the Warsaw District Court issued a European Arrest Warrant for Romanowski. However, Hungarian authorities stated that the PiS MP has refugee status and may exercise his right to freedom of movement within Hungary. Zbigniew Ziobro is also currently said to be staying in Budapest, having become another target of the ruling authorities. The prosecutor’s office has already issued a decision to bring charges against him, also in connection with the Justice Fund case.
