MEPs Call for EU Support for Flood Victims

In a European Parliament debate, MEPs Michał Dworczyk (PiS) and Bogdan Zdrojewski (PO) called for urgent EU assistance for those affected by recent floods. Dworczyk proposed the suspension of plenary sessions in Strasbourg for a year, with the savings redirected to flood victims.

    Reallocating EU Resources

Dworczyk advocated for immediate action through the European Union Solidarity Fund, aiming to provide swift relief. He also suggested holding all European Parliament sessions in Brussels to cut costs and allocate hundreds of millions of euros towards disaster relief.

Zdrojewski emphasized that the European Union cannot ignore the devastation caused by flooding across several member states. He urged the activation of the EU’s civil protection mechanism, with full funding and prompt disbursements.

    Call for Fund Expansion

Additionally, Zdrojewski called for an overhaul of the EU Solidarity Fund, including greater flexibility and expanded support mechanisms, to better respond to future natural disasters.
