Mercury detected in the Bóbr River. MP Czarnek accuses government of silence

Przemysław Czarnek, Law and Justice’s candidate for prime minister, has commented on reports by Niezalezna.pl concerning the shocking scale of the environmental disaster on the Bóbr River. “Ecology matters to them only when they can use it for political gain,” he wrote of those currently in power.

Following the release of a massive amount of pollutants into the Bóbr River, a total ban on using the reservoir was introduced. The website of the Voivodeship Inspectorate for Environmental Protection published the results of water tests carried out by the Central Research Laboratory. They are alarming. As Niezalezna.pl reported, in one of the samples, the mercury concentration exceeded the permissible limit by as much as 50 percent.

Przemysław Czarnek referred to Niezalezna.pl’s reports on X.

“When golden algae bloomed in the Oder River, the then opposition and media sympathetic to them staged a political spectacle for weeks. They frightened the Poles, lied about mercury in the river, and about an environmental disaster. Today, when we have a real disaster on the Bóbr, and tests confirm mercury contamination and the dramatic condition of the river, those in power remain silent. Double standards in their purest form. Where are all those who were sounding the alarm back then? Where are the press conferences and political accusations? When will anyone from the government take an interest in the situation? Ecology matters to them only when they can use it for political gain. The silence of the authorities and pro-government media says more today than a thousand words. We will not let this matter go!”

he Law and Justice MP commented.
