Mateusz Morawiecki draws attention to the increasing instances of blackmail by the authorities against local governments. “Either you accept migrants, or you lose funding. This shocking and outrageous ultimatum was given to the residents of Suwałki. What happened in Podlasie is a real scandal,” the former prime minister wrote on platform X.
Morawiecki reminds that Podlasie is not the only region resisting pressure from the current government.
“Katowice, Łomża, Płock, Suwałki, and other towns—all across these places, Poles are saying no to the creation of so-called migrant integration centers. What happened in Suwałki was particularly disgraceful. The regional marshal there has almost explicitly threatened residents with the withdrawal of EU funds. In a letter sent to the mayor of Suwałki, the marshal stated that if the city passes a resolution blocking the establishment of an integration center, Suwałki will lose European Union funding. The argument? The EU authorities would interpret it as an act of discrimination and take action in response,” wrote the former prime minister.
Albo przyjmiecie migrantów, albo stracicie pieniądze. Takie szokujące i bulwersujące ultimatum usłyszeli mieszkańcy Suwałk. To, co wydarzyło się na Podlasiu, to prawdziwy skandal. A przecież to nie jedyny region, który dziś buntuje się przed presją obecnych władz.
