“Much has been done to tear patriotism out of the hearts of Poles. But it still holds on.” In the evening, the Warsaw Uprising March will take place

“Patriotism and historical memory still persist in Poles. Although since 1989, much has been done to tear it from our hearts,” said Robert Bąkiewicz from the Border Defense Movement (ROG) on TV Republika. He is a co-organizer of the Warsaw Uprising March, which will begin at 5:00 PM, moving through the streets of the capital.

On Friday, at exactly 5:00 PM in Warsaw, alarm sirens will sound and church bells will ring. At that moment, the city will come to a standstill for one minute – pedestrians will stop, cars, trams, and buses will halt. Then, just as in previous years, the Warsaw Uprising March will proceed through the streets of the capital.

“At 5:00 PM we gather at Dmowski Roundabout, from where we will march through the streets of Warsaw to Krasiński Square, where we will conclude with the singing of patriotic and insurgent songs. With us will be the group Gromada Wspaniałych Dzieciaków, which will make this day more beautiful, more uplifting,” announced Robert Bąkiewicz on TV Republika.

He also noted that the Warsaw Uprising March has now become a permanent part of the commemorations of the anniversary of the uprising’s outbreak on August 1. “I think this is an important event not only for Varsovians, but for all Poles. The Warsaw Uprising was a Polish uprising, against the Germans, against the Soviets. It was a fight for an independent, sovereign Poland. Today we can draw inspiration from that uprising, even though it was a tragic one,” he stated. Bąkiewicz emphasized that every year, a large number of young people, new generations, take part in this march and in the Independence March on November 11.

“Patriotism and historical memory still persist in Poles. Although since 1989, much has been done to tear it from our hearts. To tear out memory, love, our identity,” he added.
