The Prosecutor’s Office has launched an investigation into an illegal online campaign that supported Rafał Trzaskowski while simultaneously targeting his opponents. According to a NASK report, these activities may have had foreign connections, and the advertising accounts involved spent more in just a few days than official electoral committees. The case is also being investigated by the Internal Security Agency (ABW).
Foreign links and the Prosecutor’s investigation
The Ministry of Digital Affairs published a report summarizing the activities of the services related to the presidential election. The document included information about a social media campaign that promoted Rafał Trzaskowski while discrediting his rivals, wnp.pl reported. Ads published in April and May on platforms owned by Meta were said to cost hundreds of thousands of zlotys. It was noted that within just a week, the accounts involved in the operation spent more than any official electoral committee. The NASK report stated: “Domain analyses conducted by OAD NASK revealed links between the operation and citizens and business entities from third countries. It should be borne in mind that passing such digital verification is within the capabilities of external disinformation actors, and was therefore not considered sufficient grounds to dismiss the evident foreign connections,” the document read.
The investigation was launched on June 9, 2025: “As part of the ongoing proceedings, materials and information obtained by NASK are also being used. Due to the good of the ongoing investigation, it is not possible to provide more detailed information about the case,” said Katarzyna Calów-Jaszewska, spokeswoman for the Prosecutor General’s Office.
According to earlier findings, the production of the spots allegedly involved the company Estratos Digital GmbH from Vienna and members of the Akcja Demokracja organization. The case is also being examined by the Internal Security Agency (ABW). The question arises whether Rafał Trzaskowski’s campaign staff knew about this campaign and whether these actions could be classified as illegal election financing.
