Nawrocki Criticizes Tusk’s Optimism: “I See the Mood Is Good…”

I see, Mr. Prime Minister, that the mood is good when it comes to public finances. I admire the mood of the Prime Minister and the Minister of Finance, because the Prime Minister touched on various aspects but did not address the 150 billion PLN deficit. (…) The Prime Minister regularly used the adjective ‘record’, but according to my information, we have a record deficit since 1989. That adjective was missing when it came to the deficit itself, and that is the subject of today’s meeting,” said President of Poland Karol Nawrocki in response to Donald Tusk’s speech during the Council of Ministers.

Donald Tusk, when responding to the questions of President Karol Nawrocki, did not even mention the record budget deficit, which after July reached 150 billion PLN. Instead, he stated that he was satisfied with public finances because… “there is no longer that PiS-driven high cost of living.” Later, he also informed that the government had found a way to bypass the presidential veto and would implement changes concerning wind turbines through a regulation.

He claimed that the Central Communication Port (CPK) “will be ready sooner than we currently assume.”

I see, Mr. Prime Minister, that the mood is good when it comes to public finances. I admire the mood of the Prime Minister and the Minister of Finance, because the Prime Minister touched on various aspects but did not address the 150 billion PLN deficit. There will probably be an opportunity, and the Minister will speak at our meeting, but these are real, hard statistical data, and no one questions them. The Prime Minister regularly used the adjective ‘record’, but according to my information, we have a record deficit since 1989. That adjective was missing when it came to the deficit itself, and that is the subject of today’s meeting – replied President Karol Nawrocki.

He added that “he did not manage to encourage the Prime Minister to abandon historical sentiment,”

If he keeps talking about what was, he will not rise to the level of a manly discussion of what the Polish government has achieved over the past year and a half. It would be better for the hygiene of our meeting, because we would be discussing concrete matters and statistics that also affect the lives of Poles – added the President.

Karol Nawrocki pointed out that “the delay in the CPK is an objective issue.”

I am grateful that you abandoned questioning the very idea of the CPK, because we remember that some time ago there was the slogan ‘No to the CPK.’ I also share the sensitivity of Polish counties and smaller towns – such as Kalisz or Jastrzębie-Zdrój – where people are waiting for this investment. The form proposed by the ruling authorities is not satisfactory for the people of Poland. Leaving aside developmental issues, there is in Poland a prevailing mood that we should build the CPK in the way its initiators envisioned it – he assessed.

I would not exaggerate with this positive emotion and enthusiasm, either regarding public finances or breakthrough projects – nuclear energy and the CPK – added the President.

Karol Nawrocki praised his cooperation with the Minister of National Defense, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, noting that it is “smooth.”
