“The recall of the Civic Platform administration in Zabrze through a referendum is an example for all of Poland. Just as Zabrze won, Poland must win too,” said Karol Nawrocki, an independent presidential candidate, in an interview with Niezalezna.pl. During a meeting, Nawrocki was accompanied by George Simion, who has already won the first round of the presidential election in Romania.
Today, at Freedom Square in Zabrze, Dr. Karol Nawrocki, the independent candidate for President of Poland, met with residents of the Silesian region. Chants such as “Zabrze free from the Platform” echoed through the square, referring to Sunday’s referendum in which residents voted to remove Civic Coalition’s Mayor Agnieszka Rupniewska from office.
The politician had burdened the city with debt by taking out a loan of over 350 million PLN from the Ministry of Finance, laid off nearly 100 employees from city hall, and ignored court rulings, including those related to waste management. We asked Dr. Nawrocki for his thoughts on the Zabrze referendum.
An Example for the Entire Country
“Zabrze has set an example for all of Poland. By voting out the Civic Platform administration, the people of Zabrze showed that when all forces unite, it is possible to remove a government that is harmful and does not serve its citizens. The same needs to happen on a national level with Donald Tusk’s government, which does not serve Poland,” said Nawrocki.
A Government That Harms Its Citizens
Dr. Nawrocki also spoke to the gathered crowd about Zabrze as an inspiration.
“Zabrze has become the capital of civic Poland by freeing itself from a government that failed to govern effectively. In cities where politics and party interests dominate, and where people who have worked for years to help the city grow are fired for being inconvenient—things go wrong. When party politics takes over local governments, we, the citizens of the Polish Republic—in Zabrze and across the country—can and must say ‘NO’ loud and clear. Zabrze proved that a local community wants to grow, to use its potential. It wants new roads, modernization—not ideology pushed into our schools and streets, as is happening under Donald Tusk’s government,” he added.
The independent presidential candidate also emphasized the importance of coal and mines for the Polish economy—an issue he has been advocating for since the start of his campaign.
“Coal is Poland’s black gold. We must protect it, because green energy will not replace it,” he stressed.
