“I believe that we Poles have the right to speak loudly about the fact that during World War II we suffered in an exceptional way, and we also have the right to emphasize this strongly,” said President Karol Nawrocki in front of the Museum of the Second World War in Gdańsk.
On Sunday, President Karol Nawrocki traveled to Gdańsk. There, he took part in the 2nd Jan Bianga Memorial and laid a wreath at the monument to Captain Witold Pilecki. He also visited the Museum of the Second World War.
“Thank you for being here with me today. I dedicated this day to heroes, first, the Jan Bianga Memorial, honoring a man who was ready to suffer for his attachment to values and freedom. Then, I paid tribute to the greatest Polish hero of the 20th century, Captain Pilecki, a hero of resistance. I also toured the exhibition at the Museum of the Second World War. I thank all those who, years ago, called for the restoration of heroes to the exhibition. We have shown that public pressure makes sense,”
the president said.
Nawrocki also spoke up for St. Maximilian Maria Kolbe. “He is in the exhibition, but not in the form he deserves. I understand that there is a difference between my sensitivity and that of the current management,” the president noted.
