NEC Chairman on Election Protests: “Most of Them Are Just Copy-Paste”

The Supreme Court reviewed election protests today following the 2025 presidential election, which was won by Karol Nawrocki. “Most of these protests are just copy-paste,” said Sylwester Marciniak, Chairman of the National Electoral Commission (NEC), speaking to journalists.

After the Supreme Court sessions, Chairman Sylwester Marciniak stepped out for a brief press briefing. “All the election protests were deemed partially valid, but not significant enough to affect the outcome of the election,” Marciniak noted.

The most recent session concerned a protest filed by a social observer from a commission in Zabrze. An inspection was conducted, and out of nearly 1,500 ballots, it turned out that… one ballot was misassigned.

“Most of these protests are just carbon copies — the commission numbers are repeated, with only the name of the person submitting the protest changed. Often, even the PESEL number is the same as that of the person who provided the template,” Marciniak pointed out.

“As for the request made by the Minister of Justice, from what I understand, there have been many expert opinions from various individuals with different academic titles. What matters is whether these opinions are based on correct assumptions (…) Such statistical analyses cannot serve as grounds for an election protest. Any one of us could sit down and compare results from individual polling stations,” the PKW chairman emphasized.

Marciniak added that he sees no legal or factual basis for recounting votes from 50, 500, 1,500, or even 5,000 polling stations.
