New Left will not send its representative to today’s talks with President Karol Nawrocki. Nevertheless, politicians from this part of the governing coalition have been taking jabs at the head of the Polish state since yesterday. “We have our own assessment of the president’s conduct. From the very beginning of his term, the president has adopted a principle of fighting this coalition,” said Włodzimierz Czarzasty today.
The invitation sent to representatives of all parliamentary caucuses and groups was announced last Friday by the president’s spokesperson, Rafał Leśkiewicz. He added that the meetings would concern “the president’s ongoing cooperation with parliament.”
On Wednesday, when both Civic Platform (KO) and New Left (Lewica) declared that they would not take part in the meetings with the president, the head of Karol Nawrocki’s Chancellery, Paweł Szefernaker, wrote on X:
“The masks are off. KO and the Left are excluding themselves from a politics of cooperation. Paradoxically, it is good that this is finally without pretense. This is not about a courtesy meeting at the President’s Palace. It is about talking about people’s issues: security, cheaper electricity, better healthcare, and farmers’ problems. The president invited talks across divisions. KO and the Left chose yet another conflict instead of dialogue, and their own political interest instead of the citizens’ interest. It is clear who is playing for Polish affairs and who is playing politics.”
They do not want to talk, but why attack…?
Although there will be no representatives of KO and the Left at the Presidential Palace today, politicians from these parties are publicly taking jabs at President Nawrocki.
This morning, a video appeared on Tomasz Trela’s profile in which the Left politician argues that the president’s proposal is “politics and an attempt at political maneuvering, and the Left will not take part in Nawrocki’s shady games.”
“If Nawrocki matures to the point where he understands that he is the president of the entire country, and matures to the point where he invites representatives of parliamentary caucuses to discuss specific topics, then we will consider it,” we hear in the video. In the morning, on TVN24, another Left politician, Anna Maria Żukowska, stated that she would not take part in the meeting with the president because “I don’t like being put in a situation where I don’t fully know what will happen, I don’t know in what capacity I am being invited, what I am being invited to, and what I might potentially be committing myself to.”
Dostaliśmy zaproszenie do teatru Nawrockiego. Podpisał się sam pudel… tzn. „Pitbull” Bogucki. Puste słowa, zero konkretów. Nawrocki, nie z nami te numery. pic.twitter.com/Zfrh0YY4jr

The Speaker of the Sejm, Włodzimierz Czarzasty himself, also stated during a press conference that “if something needs to be agreed upon regarding legislation, I am at the president’s disposal. That is all on this matter.”
“The line is concrete and precise. We will not change our line on this matter depending on whether someone feels like meeting with someone or not. We have our own assessment of the president’s conduct. From the very beginning of his term, the president has adopted a principle of fighting this coalition. The coalition has its positions and presents them very clearly,” he said.
