Niagara Falls Glows White and Red to Mark Polish Flag Day

On May 2, celebrated as Polish Flag Day and the Day of the Polish Diaspora and Poles Abroad, Niagara Falls was illuminated in white and red. The spectacle was visible from both Canada and the United States and delighted internet users.

Niagara Falls lies on the Canadian-American border, so the white-and-red colours can be seen from both countries. Representatives of the Polish diaspora gathered on both sides.

The world’s most famous waterfall in Polish colours

“The world’s most famous waterfall has been illuminated in Poland’s national colours!” the Senate announced on X. The lighting ceremony at Niagara Falls was attended by Senate Marshal Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska, who began her visit to Canada on Polish Flag Day.

Polish Flag Day was established by the Sejm of the Republic of Poland under the Act of 20 February 2004. It was celebrated for the first time on 2 May 2004. The Day of the Polish Diaspora and Poles Abroad is also observed on the same date. It was established by the Act of 20 March 2002 on the initiative of the Senate of the Republic of Poland.
