“Only a Veto,” Says Lisiewicz as Pressure Mounts on President Nawrocki Over SAFE

“President Karol Nawrocki is under tremendous pressure, pressure he must withstand, because otherwise he would betray his voters,” said Piotr Lisiewicz on the program “Piachem w tryby” on TV Republika, commenting on the pressure being placed on the head of state in connection with the bill concerning the SAFE program. As he added, among voters from the circles supporting the president, one clear expectation can be heard: “only a veto.” Meanwhile, in the Sejm, proceedings on the presidential bill proposing an alternative solution regarding the financing of armaments have been halted.

The dispute over SAFE and the president’s proposal

A presidential bill proposing a solution referred to as “SEJF 0%” has been submitted to the Sejm. The proposal was prepared jointly with the President of the National Bank of Poland, Adam Glapiński.

The assumptions of the project were presented to Prime Minister Donald Tusk during a meeting at the Presidential Palace. The details were discussed on Wednesday on Polsat News by the Head of the President’s Chancellery, Zbigniew Bogucki.

“Prime Minister Tusk said on Friday that if he received concrete proposals, and yesterday he received them, he would prepare a bill within a few hours. He doesn’t have to prepare a bill, because the president has already prepared it; yesterday I submitted it on behalf of the president,”

Bogucki said.

He added that he had hoped the proposal would already be processed during the Sejm session beginning on March 11.

 “The freezer” in the Sejm

However, that will not happen. Speaker of the Sejm Włodzimierz Czarzasty announced at a press conference that the proposal will not be processed for the time being.

“We will not process the bill submitted by the president until the process related to the bill that has been sent to the president is completed. Why? Because the president must take responsibility for his decisions,”

he said.

Lisiewicz: “The president under tremendous pressure”

Commentator Piotr Lisiewicz addressed the situation on the program “Piachem w tryby” on TV Republika. In his opinion, President Karol Nawrocki is currently under strong pressure regarding the decision on the bill.

“President Karol Nawrocki is under tremendous pressure, pressure he must withstand, because otherwise he would betray his voters,”

he said.

Lisiewicz argued that voters from groups supporting the president expect a clear decision.

“All the political groups whose voters voted for Karol Nawrocki are saying clearly, and so are their electorates, only a veto, no other solutions, no half-measures, no Constitutional Tribunals, no negotiations,”

he stated.

The commentator also emphasized that the SAFE program mechanism contains an element of conditionality.

“The provision on conditionality, that leash, that muzzle, that spiked leash we are on, is independent of whatever Poles might pass in their own law in Poland,”

he said.

 “Terrible pressure and threats”

Lisiewicz also referred to the situation surrounding the president in recent days.

“On the other hand, we see these terrible pressures, these threats directed at the president in recent days, and I think few people believe this is a coincidence,”

he said.

In this context, he also mentioned the issue concerning apartments at the Museum of the Second World War.

“They started summoning the president to the prosecutor’s office over those outdated, rejected-by-the-public absurdities regarding the apartments at the Museum of the Second World War,”

he said.

Lisiewicz also referred to earlier statements about the possibility of bringing charges against other individuals.

“Some time ago, Mr. Bodnar claimed that yes, the president has immunity, but charges could be brought against the first lady, Marta Nawrocka, so these people are even capable of that kind of nastiness, that kind of vulgar conduct,”

he said.
