According to a recent analysis by Rankomat.pl, Poland’s roads are dominated by older vehicles, with the Opel Astra (2005) and Volkswagen Passat (2006) being among the most commonly driven models. While the sale of new cars in Poland is steadily increasing—new registrations rose by 5.59% in September 2024 compared to the previous year—drivers typically opt for cars around 15 years old.
Despite Toyota leading in new car registrations, used models from Opel and Volkswagen remain highly popular across the country. From January to September 2024, Opel was the most insured brand in eight Polish regions, with Volkswagen leading in seven. Regionally, Opel Astra was the most insured car model in nine provinces, while Volkswagen models dominated in the west.
Insurance costs also vary by region. In Podkarpacie, Opel Astra owners pay the lowest average for mandatory insurance PLN 529 (EUR 115), while rates for the Volkswagen Golf range between PLN 707 (EUR 154) and PLN 744 (EUR 162), depending on the region. Insurance expert Katarzyna Gaweł from Rankomat.pl highlights that factors like driver location, accident statistics, and individual driving history contribute to these regional rate differences.
