ORLEN to Double Gas Output from Norway’s Eirin Field

PGNiG Upstream Norway AS, part of ORLEN Group, has acquired an additional 19.5% stake in the Eirin gas field from Equinor Energy. This move will nearly double the gas volume extracted from Eirin to over 1.5 billion cubic meters by the second half of 2025.

    Efficient and Sustainable Production

Located 250 km west of Stavanger, Norway, Eirin is crucial for Europe, holding approximately 27 million barrels of oil equivalent, 85% of which is natural gas. The project will utilize existing infrastructure from the nearby Gina Krog field, cutting development time and costs while reducing CO2 emissions.

    Strategic Growth and Energy Independence

The acquisition enhances ORLEN’s natural gas production and optimizes its operations on the Norwegian Continental Shelf. Eirin and Gina Krog are part of the Sleipner production hub, contributing significantly to ORLEN’s output in Norway. The Gina Krog platform, powered by renewable energy, ensures low emission intensity, which could further decrease by integrating Eirin’s production.

    Supporting Poland’s Energy Security

ORLEN’s gas supply is vital for Poland’s economy, supporting electricity, heating, and fertilizer production, and playing a key role in the green transition and energy independence for Poland and Europe.
