PGE, one of Poland’s leading energy companies, is joining hands with the League for Nature Conservation to host a conference titled “Nature Conservation in Cities.” Scheduled for September 27, 2023, at the Institute of Environmental Protection-National Research Institute (IEP-NRI) in Warsaw, this event has garnered the honorary patronage of the Ministry of Climate and Environment.
With the global population increasingly gravitating toward urban centers, the need for sustainable and nature-friendly urbanization has never been more critical. This conference aims to shed light on various aspects of urban environmental protection, including energy conservation, environmental education, climate change adaptation, and the European Bauhaus initiative, which seeks to revamp urban areas with EU support.
One of the key highlights of the event will be a presentation by Beata Czerniak, Director of the Support Processes Department at PGE Energia Ciepła, titled ‘Energy. City. Nature. Is a common path possible?’ Ms. Czerniak’s presentation will delve into strategies to minimize air emissions from district heating installations and expand district heating networks in cities while implementing programs aimed at reducing low emissions, using the Kraków CHP plant as a case study.
The conference will kick off at 10:00 a.m. and continue until 4:00 p.m., promising a day filled with enlightening discussions, lectures, and expert insights. Participants can expect to gain a multi-faceted understanding of the challenges facing the natural environment in urban areas and explore innovative measures to support local authorities in their mission to protect urban ecosystems.
PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna has been a Strategic Partner of the Nature Conservation League since November 2021. Over the years, the PGE Group has undertaken various initiatives aimed at enhancing the quality of the natural environment. These initiatives span from large-scale investments in low- and zero-emission energy sources to collaborations with national parks, active protection of endangered bird species, and a multitude of educational projects.
The partnership between PGE and the League for Nature Conservation underscores their commitment to creating greener, more sustainable urban landscapes. By bringing together experts, policymakers, and stakeholders at the “Nature Conservation in Cities” conference, they hope to pave the way for more environmentally friendly urban development in Poland and beyond.
