Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of State Assets Jacek Sasin and President of the Management Board of PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna Wojciech Dąbrowski met with representatives of the Korean energy company KHNP. The meeting concerned the construction of a nuclear power plant in Pątnów.
“We are consistently implementing the nuclear energy development project in Poland. It is reliable, cheap and safe energy. In 10-12 years, nuclear energy will be the basis of our energy mix. The construction of nuclear power plants in Poland is a key issue for our energy security. The nuclear power plant project in Pątnów, which will be implemented by PGE, ZE PAK and KHNP, is a supplement to the government’s Polish Nuclear Energy Programme. Today’s meeting is another step towards the implementation of this project.”,
said Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of State Assets, Jacek Sasin.
During the meeting, key issues for the implementation of the project, such as: research and preparation of the location for the construction of the power plant, preparation of an environmental impact report, and the future business structure of the project were discussed.
A letter of intent regarding the construction of a nuclear power plant in Pątnów was signed between PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna, ZE PAK, and the Korean company KHNP on October 30, 2022. The Ministry of State Assets and the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy of Korea also concluded agreements on intergovernmental cooperation.
Talks on cooperation in the project were also continued during the World Economic Forum in Davos, both with KHNP, as well as at the government level with Mr. Lee Chang-yang, Minister of Trade, Infrastructure and Energy of the Republic of Korea, as well as with the President of the Republic of Korea, Mr. Yoon Suk-yeol.
