In the evening, members of the PiS parliamentary club met with President-elect Karol Nawrocki. According to their accounts, the meeting covered, among other topics, a summary of the campaign, “went excellently, and the atmosphere was great.” According to PiS politicians, Nawrocki pledged a dynamic presidency and legislative initiatives.
The meeting between the president-elect and PiS parliamentarians took place at a hotel in Sękocin, near Warsaw. It began after 7 p.m., with the official part lasting about two hours.
PiS MP Bartłomiej Wróblewski told journalists after the meeting that the event “went excellently and the atmosphere was great.”
“There were many kind words, a summary of the presidential campaign, and also a discussion with the understanding that this is just the first step, that the situation in the country is not good, that we have a poor government, and that these reconstruction ideas are essentially just cosmetic,”
he said.
Another PiS MP, Marcin Przydacz, who will be responsible for international affairs in Nawrocki’s office, said that during the meeting, the president-elect thanked the MPs and PiS structures for the good work done, emphasising that it was achieved together.
According to PiS MP Adam Andruszkiewicz, who will become deputy head of Nawrocki’s chancellery, no specific legislative proposals were discussed on Tuesday. However, he added:
“It will come as no surprise that one of the key matters we will want to pursue early on is the issue of the Central Communication Port (CPK), along with many other matters presented during the campaign by President Karol Nawrocki.”
Before the meeting, PiS MP Radosław Fogiel told journalists that Tuesday’s event would be divided into two parts, a closed meeting of the parliamentary club, followed by a meeting with the president-elect. “We’ll be discussing the president’s plans; he has announced an active presidency, including in legislative terms, and the parliamentary club will have a certain role in that,” Fogiel said.
PiS MP Zbigniew Bogucki—who is set to become head of the presidential chancellery—emphasised ahead of the meeting that the PiS club wanted to thank Nawrocki for “carrying the campaign both mentally and physically, despite many brutal attacks.”
On June 1, in the second round of the presidential election, PiS-backed Karol Nawrocki won with 50.89% of the vote, defeating Civic Coalition candidate Rafał Trzaskowski, who received 49.11%.
On Saturday, the Monitor Polski (Polish Monitor) published a decree by Sejm Marshal Szymon Hołownia regarding the convening of the National Assembly for the swearing-in of the newly elected President of the Republic of Poland. The National Assembly will be held in the Sejm plenary hall on August 6.
