Former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki shared on social media a comparison of two videos showing celebrations of football club successes. The first featured Polish fans of Wisła Kraków during a title celebration after promotion to the Ekstraklasa. The second showed riots in Paris following PSG’s triumph in the Champions League final. Under the published materials, Morawiecki wrote: “Poland – a bastion of normality!”
Mateusz Morawiecki decided to highlight two radically different ways of celebrating football success. In recent days, celebrations took place in Kraków and Paris following major achievements by football clubs. However, the scenes captured by cameras were entirely different.
On the one hand – Polish fans of Wisła Kraków celebrating their club’s promotion to the Ekstraklasa. On the other – riots in Paris after PSG’s victory in the Champions League final.
The former prime minister’s comment left no doubt as to the message he wanted to convey to his audience.
“Polish fans vs ‘French fans’ after their clubs win matches. POLAND – A BASTION OF NORMALITY! This is what we will fight for, this is what we will defend!” – wrote Mateusz Morawiecki.
PSG won the Champions League, but the celebrations quickly got out of control. Violent riots broke out on the streets of Paris. – “219 people were injured, including eight seriously,” confirmed Interior Minister Laurent Nunez.
The celebration following Wisła Kraków’s success looked entirely different. After securing promotion to the Ekstraklasa, the streets of Kraków filled with the club’s supporters, who celebrated their team’s success together. It was joy – loud, colorful, energetic – but peaceful and free of violence. It was precisely this image – Polish fans collectively celebrating their club’s success – that Morawiecki chose to contrast with the violence in Paris as a symbol of normality and social culture.
