Poland’s Minister of Interior and Administration, Mariusz Kamiński, has denounced Belarus’s recent claims of a border violation by a Polish military helicopter as a provocation aimed at escalating tensions between the two neighboring countries. In a statement made on Saturday in Chełm, Kamiński asserted that this incident was likely a response to Poland’s stern protest against Belarusian helicopters infringing on Polish airspace a few weeks earlier.
The situation remains highly volatile, with ongoing Russian military maneuvers near Belarus, close to Poland’s border. Poland has amassed significant forces prepared to respond swiftly and appropriately to any emerging situation. Additionally, Poland enjoys substantial political support, including backing from Baltic states, Lithuania and Latvia, both sharing borders with Belarus.
Kamiński revealed plans to expand this coalition to include Scandinavian countries, such as Finland and Norway, who share borders with Russia, to address the broader regional security concerns.
In recent days, Poland has also engaged in dialogue with Avril Haines, the U.S. Coordinator of National Intelligence, exchanging information on Belarus, the Wagner Group, and potential provocations. This international cooperation aims to send a clear message to the Belarusian regime that any provocation will come at a high cost.
