Poland exempted from the Migration Pact? “The Prime Minister took no real action in Brussels”

According to recent media reports, Poland may be temporarily exempted from the obligations arising from the EU Migration Pact. Mariusz Błaszczak emphasized that if these reports are confirmed, it will be thanks to President Karol Nawrocki, not Donald Tusk. “The Prime Minister, apart from a few press conferences for Polish media, has taken no real action in Brussels,” said the Deputy Chairman of Law and Justice (PiS).

Unofficial reports indicate that the European Commission is considering exempting Poland from the migrant relocation mechanism and the related financial burdens. The reason is said to be the massive number of refugees from Ukraine accepted by Poland after 2022. Although Donald Tusk announced on social media that he had “settled” the matter and that Poland would not be covered by relocation, Mariusz Błaszczak pointed out that the situation is somewhat different.

Tusk didn’t settle anything

If the media reports about Poland’s temporary exemption from the Migration Pact turn out to be true, it will be thanks to President Karol Nawrocki, not Donald Tusk. “The Prime Minister, apart from a few press conferences for Polish media, has taken no real action in Brussels,” wrote the politician on X.

The possible exemption for Poland from the Migration Pact arrangements would apply only for one year.

“Tusk says that ‘we will not implement the pact,’ but he omits the fact that in many cases there is actually nothing left to implement, because the acts are already in force,” noted Błaszczak.

The chairman of the Law and Justice (PiS) parliamentary group stressed that Poland must reject the provisions of the Migration Pact. “It is important to organize a referendum against illegal migration and to unilaterally withdraw from the Migration Pact,” wrote Błaszczak.

One of the most controversial elements of the pact is the so-called solidarity mechanism, which is to be recalculated annually. Member states will be obliged either to accept a specific number of migrants or to make a financial contribution in exchange for refusal.
