Poland faces no fuel shortages, says MEP Obajtek, citing Orlen investments

“When I was at Orlen, we invested very heavily, above all in production capacity and refining capacity. The whole of Europe was not doing this; it was focusing on the Green Deal,” said Daniel Obajtek, former CEO of Orlen, in a recording published on X. The politician recalled that thanks to investments implemented during his tenure, “there is no fuel shortage in Poland today.”

EU Commissioner: Europe is preparing for a “prolonged” energy shock

The closure of the Strait of Hormuz by Iran and attacks on infrastructure in the Persian Gulf have caused a sharp rise in prices and long-term concerns about fuel supplies. EU Energy Commissioner Dan Jørgensen told the British daily Financial Times that energy prices will remain high for a very long time. He stressed that Europe is preparing for a “prolonged” energy shock. According to the newspaper, the European Union is considering “all options,” including fuel rationing and releasing more oil from emergency reserves.

Jørgensen warned that for some “key” products, “we should expect things to get even worse in the coming weeks.”

“Our analysis shows that this situation will persist, and countries must ensure they have what they need,”

said the commissioner from Denmark.

Obajtek: We spent billions on modernization, which is why there is no fuel shortage in Poland today

Daniel Obajtek, a Member of the European Parliament from the Law and Justice (PiS) party and former CEO of Orlen, published a recording on X in which he commented on Jørgensen’s remarks and emphasized that Poland has no problems with fuel availability thanks to investments made during his tenure.

“Do you remember how strongly, when I was at Orlen with my entire management board, we invested primarily in production and refining capacities? The whole of Europe was not doing this. The whole of Europe focused on the Green Deal. They said that traditional fuels were becoming a thing of the past. And what happened? Every year, Europe was losing production capacity in its refineries. And you see what is happening? Europe is increasingly running short of fuel because this left-wing Europe believed in the doctrine of the Green Deal,”

the politician said.

He also recalled that under his leadership, Orlen’s management “made decisions and diversified oil supplies.”

“We carried out a large number of maintenance and replacement investments, for which the current authorities pursued us. They do not have to thank us, I do not expect that, but it is precisely because we spent billions on modernization that today there is no fuel shortage in Poland,”

he concluded.
