Poland’s national team suffered a 1-3 defeat against Portugal in the UEFA Nations League on Saturday evening at the PGE Narodowy in Warsaw. Despite a brief moment of hope, the hosts were overwhelmed by a superior Portuguese side led by Cristiano Ronaldo, who added another goal to his legendary tally.
Ronaldo Leads Portugal to Victory
Portugal dominated the first half, with 19 consecutive passes leading to Bernardo Silva’s opener in the 26th minute. Ten minutes later, Cristiano Ronaldo, aged 39, scored his 133rd international goal, tapping in after Rafael Leao’s shot hit the post. Ronaldo’s presence continued to trouble Poland’s defense, although he missed an opportunity to further extend the lead before being substituted to a standing ovation from 56,000 fans.
Poland managed to reduce the deficit when Piotr Zieliński scored following a strong run by substitute Kacper Urbański. However, a risky offensive push in the final minutes left them exposed. In stoppage time, Jan Bednarek’s own goal sealed Poland’s fate. Despite appeals for a foul, the referee waved them away, leaving Poland with back-to-back defeats.
