“Poland is so much more than just a true, loyal, and trustworthy ally. She’s so much more than just a partner that helps share our burdens, assume our risks, and stand shoulder to shoulder with American men and women when they stand in harms way. Poland does all of this because Poland is FAMILY,” said U.S. Ambassador to Poland Tom Rose on Sunday.
On Thursday, President Donald Trump said in an interview with Fox News that the United States had never needed NATO’s help and had “never really asked allies for anything.”
“You know, they’ll say they sent troops to Afghanistan or Sudan, and they did. They stayed a little behind, a little away from the front lines,”
he added.
Representatives of NATO member states responded to his remarks, including President Karol Nawrocki. “They deserve respect and words of gratitude for their service. Forty-four brave Poles fell in Afghanistan: 43 soldiers and one civilian,” he wrote on X later that same day. On Sunday, he also stated, among other things, that “the United States knows how great Poland’s contribution to allied operations has been.”
Evidence that Nawrocki’s assessment was accurate may be found in the post by the U.S. Ambassador to Poland, Tom Rose.

“That the United States didn’t strictly need the support of so many of our allies in Afghanistan or Iraq makes their immediate support — Poland first and foremost —all the more meaningful and all the more appreciated. The loyalty, solidarity, and shared conviction demonstrated by Poland and her people is something President Donald Trump and the American people will never forget,”
the diplomat wrote on Sunday evening.
As he added, “Polish forces joined the fight even without having to be asked — she fought alongside us with her historically famous professionalism, courage, and sacrifice.”
“This was no symbolic gesture — it was a meaningful, operational, and decisive element of our success,”
he emphasized.

he underlined.
Rose noted that the partnership between Poland and the United States has been built over generations and thanked Polish politicians. As he stated, “Poland has more than earned America’s respect, admiration, and enduring gratitude—it has earned our love and undying support.”
It is worth noting that Rose had previously responded to comments circulating in the Polish public sphere regarding Trump’s remarks. At that time, he stated that Poland “has no greater friend” than the American leader.
