Poland to receive prestigious Michelin Guide listing for its cities

Poland is set to become a more popular tourist destination, with the Polish Tourism Organisation and Michelin Guide signing an agreement to include Polish cities in the iconic Michelin Guide. The first cities to be included are Warsaw, Krakow and Poznan, as well as their surrounding areas.

The Polish Tourism Organisation and the Michelin Guide have begun their collaboration with the selection of cities. Inspectors have been sent to Poland, tasked with assessing and verifying the country’s restaurants. This is a chance for the catering industry in Poland’s major cities to showcase their best offerings. The cities can also join the exclusive circle of venues guaranteeing a top-notch culinary experience. A summary will be compiled in June during the second stage of the project. Then, the best restaurants will be awarded the esteemed Michelin Stars and Bib Gourmand distinctions.

“Poland is set to make its debut in the prestigious Michelin Guide – a move that signals an effort to bolster its international culinary tourism market. With global trends pointing to increased demand for authentic gastronomic travel experiences, the inclusion of Poland in the guide provides yet another opportunity to promote the country’s hospitality and refined culinary offerings. With its rich culinary tradition, Poland is sure to offer travelers a unique and memorable experience,”

Andrzej Gut Mostowy, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Sport and Tourism, admits.

For more than a century, the Michelin Guide has been a respected authority on the best restaurants in the world. With its 2020 edition, the guide has expanded to include 62 regions and cities, 30 of which are located in Europe. This edition marks the longest-running culinary guide in the world, with a history that dates back to 1900. Its unbeatable sales volume, history, and reputation make the Michelin Guide the gold standard for restaurant reviews.

“I would like to congratulate the Polish Tourism Organisation for taking up a major challenge in introducing Poland to the Michelin Guide selection. Three regions of the country are set to appear in the prestigious list, with more to follow in later years. This is a huge opportunity for the HoReCa sector, and an incentive to take gastronomy tourism to the next level. To achieve this, training of chefs must be improved to raise their qualifications and skills. Congratulations to the Polish Tourism Organisation for this exciting development,”

Maciej Dobrzyniecki, the President of the Polish Academy of Gastronomy and the exclusive partner of the Michelin Guide in Poland, says.

Michelin’s Red Guide, renowned for its system of symbols used to describe restaurants, is compiled through anonymous inspections. Restaurants marked with a star are even listed along with three of their signature dishes. There is no cost to be included in the guide, although Michelin claims the right to visit the restaurant every 18 months or so in order to update their rating.

“Poland is celebrating a momentous occasion as the cities of Krakow, Poznan and Warsaw have been included in the prestigious Michelin Guide. This is a major milestone for the Polish tourism industry and will help to set national standards for culinary excellence. The Michelin Guide is a reliable marker for tourists who are looking for the highest quality of experience, from the taste to the overall tourism experience. As Poland works to rebuild its tourism sector, having the guarantee of quality from the Michelin brand will be a major incentive for foreign visitors. This addition to the Michelin Guide is sure to bring great economic benefit to the sector as a whole,”

Rafał Szmytke, the President of the Polish Tourist Organisation, says.
