Former Defense Minister Mariusz Błaszczak criticizes past Polish defense strategies and warns against the EU migration pact, emphasizing the need to protect the entire country.
Defending the Entire Nation
Former Polish Defense Minister Mariusz Błaszczak strongly criticized past defense strategies, arguing that previous governments planned to abandon 40% of the country in the event of an invasion. “We must defend Poland at the border, not by surrendering vast territories and leaving millions of citizens behind,” he stated on TV Republika. He emphasized that changing Poland’s defense doctrine under the previous PiS-led government prevented the current administration from reverting to earlier strategies. “It would now be difficult to return to the idea of defending along the Vistula River and leaving eastern Poland to the enemy. We changed that strategy,” Błaszczak added.
Security Concerns and Migration Pact
Błaszczak also raised concerns about national security, particularly regarding the EU migration pact. He accused Donald Tusk’s government of following “a German agenda” by pushing for the relocation of illegal migrants. “Karol Nawrocki says he will reject the migration pact, and that is the right decision,” he stated. He also expressed optimism about the nomination of Thomas Rose as the new U.S. ambassador to Poland, hoping for “a change in how the office is conducted.”
