Poland has achieved a remarkable milestone, with 92.5% of its population expressing support for the construction of nuclear power plants, according to the latest survey. This represents the highest level of approval in the history of such studies. Additionally, 94.2% of respondents believe nuclear energy will enhance Poland’s energy security, reflecting the growing trust in this technology.
Steady Growth in Support
Support for nuclear power in Poland has surged over recent years. In 2019, only 46% of Poles favored the idea, but by 2024, this figure had doubled. Interestingly, despite global controversies surrounding nuclear energy, 79.6% of Poles are open to having a nuclear plant built in their vicinity. Only a small minority, 5.9%, oppose the initiative, signaling a significant cultural shift in attitudes toward energy solutions.
The Polish government is already preparing for its next step in nuclear development. Discussions with potential partners for a second nuclear power plant are slated to begin in January 2025. By 2026, Poland plans to finalize its choice of partner, with the plant’s location decision expected by 2028. These strategic steps reflect Poland’s commitment to strengthening its energy infrastructure.
