    Estimated reading time: 2 minutes

In a thrilling match on Friday, Poland’s women’s national football team secured a 2-1 victory against Serbia, propelling them to the top of their group in the UEFA Women’s Nations League. After three rounds of play, the Polish team can proudly claim a perfect record, positioning them well in the race for promotion to the league’s top division.

Under the guidance of coach Nina Patalon, the Polish squad is making significant strides in Group 3 of Division B in the inaugural edition of the Women’s Nations League. Their earlier wins against Greece (3-1) and Ukraine (2-1) have not only elevated their standing in the tournament but also bolstered their hopes of qualifying for the 2025 UEFA Women’s Championship.

The Serbian team, like their Polish counterparts, entered the match with a perfect record but lost their lead in the group with this defeat. Only a victory in their upcoming matches can ensure their promotion to League A and a chance at the 2025 Euro qualification playoffs.

The match demonstrated the growth of Polish women’s football, with the team taking a 2-0 lead into halftime, thanks to an own goal by Andjela Frajtović and a goal by Ewa Pajor. Serbia fought back, scoring in the 76th minute with a goal from Jovana Damnjanović. Despite a nervous ending, Poland held on to claim the victory.

The next encounter between these two teams will be on Serbian turf, in Stara Pazova, on October 31. The UEFA Women’s Nations League final tournament and the promotion/relegation playoffs are scheduled for February 21-28, 2024. A draw for the tournament and playoff matchups will take place on December 11. Polish women’s football is on the rise, and their success in the UEFA Women’s Nations League is a testament to their progress.
