Klaudia Zwolińska from Poland triumphs with a silver medal in the Women’s K1 white-water canoeing event at the 2023 European Games, marking a significant milestone in her career.
Polish kayaker Klaudia Zwolińska has achieved a lifelong dream by winning the silver medal in the Women’s K1 white-water canoeing event at the 2023 European Games. Hailing from Nowy Sącz, Zwolińska, who was previously a junior European and world champion, had yet to secure an individual podium finish at the senior level. However, her remarkable performance in the qualifying rounds and the semifinals on Thursday propelled her to the finals on Saturday.
A Challenging Start to the Finals
Although the final race did not begin as Zwolińska had hoped, with her incurring a four-second penalty for touching the gates twice, she persevered and managed to claim the silver medal. The gold medal went to Germany’s Richarda Funk, who finished nearly two seconds ahead of Zwolińska. The bronze medal was awarded to Czech kayaker Tereza Piserova, the only finalist to navigate the course flawlessly. Just missing the podium in fourth place was another Polish competitor, Natalia Pacierpnik.
