The Polish national football team, after drawing with France 1-1 in Dortmund and concluding their European Championship campaign, has returned home with an exciting schedule ahead. They are set to compete in six dynamic Nations League matches against notable opponents by year’s end and await the draw for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in December.
This year has been particularly intense for the white and reds, with the coming months promising more thrilling action. Under coach Michał Probierz, the team clinched their spot in Euro 2024 with remarkable victories in the playoff matches, beating Estonia 5-1 in Warsaw and Wales on penalties in Cardiff after a nail-biting match that ended 0-0 in extra time.
Their Euro 2024 journey, however, was less successful. Early exits came after defeats to the Netherlands and Austria, costing them a chance to progress beyond the group stages. Yet, in their final match, the Polish squad showed resilience, securing a 1-1 draw with World Cup runner-up France, signaling that the team was already pivoting towards preparation for the upcoming Nations League and World Cup qualifiers.
This fall, Poland will play six Nations League matches in Group A1, beginning with an away game against Scotland on September 5, followed closely by a match against Croatia. Both opponents also faced early exits from Euro 2024. Portugal, another team in the group, will add to the high-level competition, with the group stage wrapping up on November 18 when Poland hosts Scotland.
The top teams from each group will advance to the quarterfinals scheduled for March 20-25, 2025, with winners moving on to the Final Four tournament. Meanwhile, teams finishing at the bottom will face relegation to Division B, and those in third place will play playoffs against the runners-up from Division B.
There might also be a friendly match this fall to bid farewell to Kamil Grosicki, a veteran of the national team, though details are yet to be confirmed.
December will bring the draw for the World Cup 2026 qualifiers, with the competition kicking off in the European zone in March 2025.
The Polish national team’s schedule for the remainder of 2024 is packed, promising fans plenty of action as they vie for a spot in the next World Cup held across the USA, Canada, and Mexico. This autumn, fans can look forward to seeing whether the white and reds can turn their recent challenges into triumphs on the pitch.
