“Polish Orwell”: Blunt reactions after citizens followed instructions in Ziobro’s wanted notice

“First they tell people to call, and when people do call, they send the police to them,” Sebastian Kaleta mocked on X, referring to the situation in Łódź. The circumstances were commented on even more bluntly by Jarosław Olechowski, head of publishers at TV Republika.

On Friday, a prosecutor issued a decision to search for former Minister of Justice Zbigniew Ziobro by means of a wanted notice. The notice, featuring the image and personal details of the PiS MP, was published on the website of the Warsaw Metropolitan Police Headquarters. On Friday evening on TV Republika, MP Jan Kanthak suggested calling the numbers provided and reporting that Zbigniew Ziobro is in Hungary, where, as is widely known, he has been granted political asylum.

A resident of Łódź called 112 to report that Ziobro was in Hungary. Shortly afterward, police officers arrived at his home.

Sebastian Kaleta, former Deputy Minister of Justice, described the situation in Łódź as “Orwell in Polish.”

“Every day this government itself proves that the pursuit of Zbigniew Ziobro is pure spectacle, and since yesterday, even a political farce,”

the Law and Justice MP indicated.

Jarosław Olechowski also addressed the matter in a blunt comment:

Everyone reiterates, however, that the number 112 should be used exclusively to report emergencies where health or life is in danger. The Łódź Police published an appeal on this matter.
