Polish Press Agency (PAP) Misrepresents Trump’s Statement, Presidential Chancellery Responds

“In times when Poland is surrounded by fire, the government is doing a lot to ruin our allied relations. Unfortunately, they are no longer using matches, but a flamethrower, which is disinformation,” wrote on social media Paweł Szefernaker, Head of the Cabinet of the President of the Republic of Poland, Karol Nawrocki.

Polish Press Agency (PAP) reported Donald Trump’s words in a completely different way than they were actually said, adding a Polish context to them.

In a short statement, PAP claimed that U.S. President Donald Trump declared that “he would help Poland, but after the war.” Meanwhile, the remarks made in an interview with Fox News show something entirely different. Trump responded to a question – or rather part of it – regarding commitments to Ukraine and essentially repeated what he had already said in August 2025.

Commentators point out that this is outright disinformation and a troubling fact that, in the era of hybrid warfare, a state agency allows such a situation to occur. Following PAP, other media also picked it up, often describing themselves as objective and professional.

PAP deleted the post from social media and published a corrected dispatch on its service. The matter was addressed on social media by the Head of the Cabinet of the President of the Republic of Poland, Paweł Szefernaker.

“First, the release to the media of information about President Trump’s letter that ridiculed Polish diplomacy, now the government news agency misinforms on the statement of the President of the United States regarding our security. Unfortunately, the government spokesperson is spreading this further,” wrote Szefernaker.

“In times when Poland is surrounded by fire, the government is doing a lot to ruin our allied relations. Unfortunately, they are no longer using matches, but a flamethrower, which is disinformation,” he added.

Former Prime Minister, leader of the European Conservatives and Reformists, Mateusz Morawiecki, also pointed to the disinformation by the government spokesperson and the state press agency.

“Can they still be trusted on any matter?” he asked.
