    Polish skater Marek Kania wins bronze at Lake Placid 2023

    Polish skater Marek Kania won the bronze medal at the 31st Winter Universiade, Lake Placid 2023! He secured the third place in 35.99 at a distance of 500 meters. This is the fourth medal for Poland in speed skating!

    The Lake Placid 2023 FISU World University Games, commonly known as Lake Placid 2023, is a collegiate multi-sport winter sports event being held from 12 to 22 January 2023 in and near Lake Placid, New York, United States.

    The Polish team has already won 15 medals at the Lake Placid championship!

    On Thursday evening, 15th medal was added by mixed relay in Nordic Combined, (Weronika Kaleta, Nicole Konderla, and Andrzej Szczechowicz). They won the silver medal!

    The team started the race from the third position. Szczechowicz ran first, but unfortunately, he lost the advantage and Weronika Kaleta, who finished the run on a two and a half kilometer route, secured the 2nd place!


    A list of medals:

    • 4 gold (Nicole Konderla in ski jumping, mixed Nicole Konderla and Adam Niżnik in ski jumping, the team of Natalia Jabrzyk, Iga Wojtasik and Olga Kaczmarek in speed skating and Anna Nędza-Kubiniec in biathlon),
    • 5 silver (Iga Wojtasik and Natalia Jabrzyk in speed skating, Barbara Skrobiszewska and Anna Nędza-Kubiniec in biathlon and the relay Weronika Kaleta, Nicole Konderla and Andrzej Szczechowicz in Nordic Combined)
    • 6 bronze (Joanna Kil in Nordic Combined, Kinga Rajda in ski jumping, mixed Kinga Rajda and Szymon Jojko in ski jumping, Marek Kania in speed skating and Wojciech Janik and Barbara Skrobiszewska in biathlon).

    There is another medal chance for the Polish team on Friday. The white-and-reds will compete in the women’s slalom, the women’s and men’s cross-country skiing relay races, the women’s and men’s mass start races in speed skating as well as in the women’s and men’s team competitions in ski jumping.
