Polish student Adam Gąsienica-Samek secures second place and gold at the 2024 International Olympiad in Informatics in Egypt.
On September 8th, 2024, the 36th International Olympiad in Informatics concluded in Alexandria, Egypt. Polish student Adam Gąsienica-Samek from XIV LO in Warsaw took second place globally, earning a gold medal. Another Polish competitor, Rafał Mańczyk, also secured a gold medal, ranking 19th overall.
Poland Shines on the World Stage
Poland’s representation consisted of four students, with all achieving top-tier results. Kajetan Ramsza and Jan Gwiazda won silver medals, placing 32nd and 34th, respectively. In the unofficial country medal rankings, Poland shared third place with Japan, following the United States and Israel.
Historical Context and Legacy
This year’s success adds to Poland’s impressive history at the Olympiad, with a total of 44 gold, 52 silver, and 35 bronze medals over 36 years. Adam’s achievement marks the third-best result by a Polish competitor in Olympiad history.
