“Before our eyes, great civilizational changes are taking place, linked, among other things, to the dynamic development of artificial intelligence. I have no doubt that Europe needs sound regulations in this area, ones that foster development while simultaneously protecting our societies. The forum you have created for the exchange of experiences makes it possible to confront differing visions and to discuss the key factors influencing the region’s digital evolution,” President Karol Nawrocki wrote in a letter to the Organizers and Participants of the CEE Innovation Day in Warsaw.
Threats and an opportunity for development
In the letter, the President wrote that in an era of epoch-making global transformations, Central European nations cannot afford to stand still.
“A modern economy requires bold investments and courageous action. With this in mind, I introduced a legislative initiative to establish a Breakthrough Technologies Development Fund. I believe that artificial intelligence can give a powerful impulse to national economies and, at the same time, become an important weapon in the struggle to ensure the security of the entire continent. Today, the countries in our region are threatened not only by tanks and missiles but also by cyberattacks, disinformation campaigns, and other elements of hybrid warfare. That is why, during my recent visit to the United States, I argued that the UN Security Council should play the leading role in setting the rules for the use of artificial intelligence. I am counting on close transatlantic cooperation in this field as well. I also maintain that developing robust AI regulations should be one of the priorities of the European Union,”
the President emphasized.
