By decision of President Andrzej Duda, the day of Pope Francis’ funeral will be declared a national day of mourning. The decree requires the Prime Minister’s countersignature, and the document will be submitted to the Chancellery of the Prime Minister. President Andrzej Duda and the First Lady will attend the funeral ceremony.
Pope Francis passed away on Monday at 7:35 a.m. at the age of 88. The cause of death was a stroke, coma, and irreversible cardiac failure.
The funeral ceremonies for Pope Francis will begin this Saturday at 10:00 a.m. in St. Peter’s Square in the Vatican. After the Mass in the square, the coffin with the Pope’s body will be transported to the Basilica of Saint Mary Major, where he will be laid to rest in accordance with his wishes.
