President Andrzej Duda of Poland emphasized the crucial significance of strong ties with the United States before his official visit to the US and Canada. Accompanied by his spouse, Agata Kornhauser-Duda, he will travel to New York, Vancouver, and Edmonton from April 17th to April 23rd.
In a press briefing before departing to the USA, President Duda outlined the main objectives of his trip, stressing the paramount importance of the Poland-US relationship. He highlighted the US role in European and NATO security, essential for Poland’s security due to the presence of American troops.
Against the backdrop of Russian aggression against Ukraine, President Duda affirmed Poland’s commitment to procuring military equipment from the US. He reflected on his recent discussions in the US Congress, focusing on Ukraine’s situation, NATO solidarity, and fulfilling military contracts.
President Duda also noted the significance of his visit to New York, particularly its emphasis on sustainable development, aligning with Poland’s advocacy at the United Nations.
In Canada, President Duda will meet with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to discuss the upcoming NATO summit, European security, and increasing support for Ukraine. He will advocate for raising NATO defence spending to 3 percent to counter ongoing Russian imperialism.
