President Duda Endorses Karol Nawrocki

Yesterday, during the convention of Karol Nawrocki — the civic candidate for President of Poland — the current President, Andrzej Duda, was in attendance. The head of the Polish state officially endorsed the candidacy of the head of the Institute of National Remembrance (IPN). Why? The head of Dr. Nawrocki’s campaign team explains!

Nawrocki’s Convention
On Sunday, a major campaign convention for Dr. Karol Nawrocki, the presidential candidate supported by Law and Justice (PiS), took place at the EXPO Hall in Łódź.

Among the speakers at the event were President Andrzej Duda, former anti-communist opposition activist, publicist, and writer Bronisław Wildstein, Karol Nawrocki’s wife Marta Nawrocka, PiS chairman Jarosław Kaczyński, and Karol Nawrocki himself.

A Pivotal Moment
The event marked what was arguably a turning point in the entire campaign. President Andrzej Duda officially declared for the first time that he would cast his vote for Karol Nawrocki in the upcoming presidential election, thereby offering him his full political support.

The Motivation Behind the Endorsement
Both the photo from the event and President Duda’s presence at Nawrocki’s convention stirred public debate. Many have also questioned the motivation behind the president’s endorsement. During an interview on RMF24 radio, Karol Nawrocki’s campaign manager was asked to explain.

“It was Karol Nawrocki who extended the invitation to President Andrzej Duda, and President Duda made the decision to attend [the convention]. Only a few people knew about it,” he admitted.

He further commented:

“I believe President Andrzej Duda has witnessed over the past few months what a lack of cooperation with the government looks like […] a government that refused to work with the president, a government that brazenly violated principles that had been respected for years in Polish politics. I think that this situation also influenced his decision.”
