President Andrzej Duda held a meeting today at the Presidential Palace with Dariusz Barski, as reported by the Presidential Chancellery. The meeting lasted less than an hour, following a recent legal ruling regarding Barski’s role as National Prosecutor.
Legal Dispute Over Barski’s Appointment
On Friday, the Criminal Chamber of the Supreme Court, consisting of newly appointed judges, ruled that Barski’s appointment as National Prosecutor in 2022 was legally valid. This came after Justice Minister Zbigniew Ziobro declared the appointment flawed, leading to Dariusz Korneluk taking over as the new National Prosecutor.
On Monday, Barski appeared at the Prosecutor’s Office, expecting to resume his official duties following the Supreme Court’s decision. However, he was not permitted entry. “I am a prosecutor, and I act in accordance with the law,” Barski told reporters, adding that he would not resort to forceful means to gain access.
