President Andrzej Duda has approved a law setting a maximum price of PLN 500 per MWh for electricity for households, effective until September 2025. This move is part of a broader amendment aimed at stabilizing energy costs and supporting consumers amid rising prices.
Until March 2025, local governments and sensitive entities can benefit from a higher price cap of PLN 693 per MWh. This measure, estimated to cost PLN 150 million, aims to provide targeted relief. Energy suppliers must also submit new tariff applications by April 2025 or risk losing compensation for selling below market prices.
The law extends exemptions from capacity fees for low-voltage energy consumers, primarily households, until mid-2025. These exemptions, introduced in mid-2024, saved households PLN 2.66 to PLN 14.9 monthly, depending on usage. The costs will be reimbursed to the grid operator, PSE, from the COVID-19 fund.
The government estimates the total cost of these protective measures at over PLN 5.6 billion. This includes PLN 3.98 billion for household relief and PLN 1.476 billion for the suspension of capacity fees.
