“This will be a presidency for which Poles living abroad are truly important,” President Karol Nawrocki assured during a meeting with the Polish community in Lithuania. He added that the issues raised by Poles in Lithuania and Lithuanians in Poland can be “resolved in a partnership-based debate between two allies.”
On Monday, President Nawrocki paid a visit to Lithuania. He held talks with President Gitanas Nausėda, prime minister-designate Inga Ruginienė, and the Speaker of the Lithuanian Seimas Saulius Skvernelis. Vilnius is the next capital city—after Washington and the Vatican—that the Polish president has visited since taking office in early August.
On Monday, Nawrocki also met with representatives of the Polish community during a ceremony at the Polish Embassy in Vilnius. “This will be a presidency for which Poles living abroad are truly important, and I would like you to view our work in this way,” the president said.
“During my talks with President Nausėda, with the Speaker of Parliament, and also with the Prime Minister, we spoke above all about what unites us. About cultural heritage, about our shared—sometimes complicated—memory and history. We spoke about infrastructure projects we are waiting for and which are so important, such as Rail Baltica and Via Baltica,” Nawrocki reported.
He added that the discussions also concerned “building our resilience within NATO and the EU, but also the demands of Poles in Lithuania and the lives of Lithuanians in Poland.” At the same time, the president stressed that he is convinced these matters “will be ready to be resolved in the future through a partnership-based, friendly debate between two allies.”
