Polish President Karol Nawrocki met in Bratislava with Slovak President Peter Pellegrini. “Neither I nor President Pellegrini will agree to let Brussels or the European Union decide on migration processes in our countries — processes that pose a threat to our security,” the President said.
At the Presidential Palace in Bratislava, both one-on-one talks and plenary meetings were held between the delegations led by the Presidents of Poland and Slovakia.
During a press conference, President Nawrocki emphasized that Poland and Slovakia are not only neighbors but also proven friends.
“Between 2022 and 2024, Polish pilots participated in patrolling Slovakia’s airspace. And when Poland’s border was violated by Russian drones, President Pellegrini and Slovakia clearly declared their solidarity with Poland,” he recalled.
The President underlined that for both Poland and Slovakia, the Visegrad Group, the Three Seas Initiative, formats such as Bucharest Nine (B9), and overall responsibility for NATO’s eastern flank and Central and Eastern Europe remain fundamental goals.
“These formats bring us closer together and give our countries the ability to react within NATO or the EU on issues important to our security, economy, and prosperity,” Nawrocki stated.
He stressed that, “In building the North–South axis — which is crucial for our security and economy — we need real investment in road infrastructure.”
“President Pellegrini’s declaration that the R4 route, part of the Via Carpatia corridor, is under construction and will be completed within a few years is vital for our investors, entrepreneurs, and for expanding our economic cooperation,” he added.
“After meetings with President Donald Trump, I proposed that Poland, as soon as possible, should become a hub for gas deliveries from the United States. We already have a terminal in Świnoujście; I hope the construction of the floating terminal in the Baltic Sea will soon be completed. We have an interconnector with Slovakia. Poland’s infrastructure development and our cooperation will lead the whole region toward independence from Russia,” the Polish President said.
During the press conference, Nawrocki said that his talks with President Pellegrini also focused on migration issues.
“Our common stance is clear, and I hope we will convince our partners in Budapest and Prague to join us — Poles and Slovaks feel they are hosts in their own countries. Neither I nor President Pellegrini will agree to let Brussels or the EU decide on migration processes in our countries, which threaten our security. I am glad that on this issue, we are on the same side,” he emphasized.
While in Bratislava, President Nawrocki also met with Richard Raši, the Speaker of the National Council of the Slovak Republic, and with Robert Fico, the Prime Minister of Slovakia.
At the conclusion of the visit, Presidents Karol Nawrocki and Peter Pellegrini laid wreaths at the Gate of Freedom Monument, honoring the victims of communist regimes in Poland and Czechoslovakia.
President Nawrocki was accompanied by Marcin Przydacz, Head of the Bureau of International Policy, and Jarosław Dębowski, Deputy Chief of the Presidential Cabinet.
President Nawrocki will travel to the Czech Republic on November 24, and on December 3 he will attend the Visegrad Group Summit in Hungary.
