“Meetings are being held with representatives of various circles. Some are more willing to engage in discussion, others are not. The Polish political scene is clearly divided between those who want to talk and those like Speaker Czarzasty or – very often – Prime Minister Donald Tusk, who proceed from the assumption that if the president did not sign it, they will send him the same bill once again,” President Karol Nawrocki said in an interview with the weekly Gość Niedzielny.
The ruling camp continues its attempts to discredit the President of the Republic of Poland, portraying him as an obstacle to changes proposed by the government. In the narrative of the December 13 Coalition, Karol Nawrocki is referred to, among other things, as a “veto man.” Of more than 150 bills reviewed since August 2025, the President of the Republic of Poland has vetoed 20. He has also submitted several dozen legislative initiatives to the Sejm, sometimes constituting alternatives to the vetoed provisions.
As recently as Friday morning, this tone was echoed by Stefan Krajewski, the minister of agriculture.
“I said that he is President Nawetowrocki, because he vetoes everything. Even bills that would seem not to carry any controversy were also vetoed,” Krajewski said on Polish Radio Program 3 (Program III, PR3).
The President of the Republic of Poland points out, however, that the policy he has adopted is already producing its first effects, although not the entire ruling camp is willing to discuss pending legislation with the Presidential Palace.
“You can see the effects of consistently implementing the presidential agenda. Yes, meetings are taking place with representatives of various circles. Some are more willing to discuss, others are not. The Polish political scene is clearly divided between those who want to talk and those like Speaker Czarzasty or – very often – Prime Minister Donald Tusk, who proceed from the assumption that if the president did not sign it, we will send him the same bill once again. And in the meantime we will intimidate, unleash a media storm, and try to pressure him so much that he will eventually sign it,” President Nawrocki said in a conversation with the weekly Gość Niedzielny. The President indicated that there are circles within the government that want to engage in dialogue.
“An example is a very long and substantive conversation regarding the Lower Oder Valley National Park with the Minister [for Climate, Paulina] Hening-Kloska. Talks are also ongoing with my ministers on the media law. Discussions are taking place on the status of a closest person. If it is possible to help people, regardless of the emotional context or a deeper, personal one, we are ready for discussion. With one firm assumption: marriage is a union between a woman and a man. There are already effects of consistency in rejecting what is bad. For example, I vetoed the Road Traffic Act, to which provisions harmful to the development of bus transport in rural areas were added during the work of a parliamentary committee. The act returned amended, without that provision, and was signed by me,” Karol Nawrocki added.
