Presidential Couple Encourages Participation in the Christmas Eve Children’s Aid Campaign

“Dear compatriots, we encourage you to support the great charitable initiative—the Christmas Eve Children’s Aid Campaign,” President Karol Nawrocki addressed his fellow citizens. The First Lady, who appeared in the recording alongside him, emphasized that “Caritas candles have been present in Polish homes for 35 years.”

“It is an immensely important and valuable undertaking, and at the same time a wonderful testimony of mercy, civic community, and the unity of the Christian spirit, because this initiative is carried out jointly by Polish Catholics, Evangelicals, and Orthodox Christians,” President Nawrocki stressed in the recording.

Marta Nawrocka noted that the Caritas candles placed on holiday tables “symbolize warmth, kindness, and the solemn yet joyful character of Christmas, and above all they are a sign of solidarity with those in need.”

“May this light—full of beauty and goodness—also be lit this year on our tables during the family Christmas Eve supper. We encourage everyone to support the Christmas Eve Children’s Aid Campaign,” the President added.

Christmas Eve Children’s Aid Campaign

An annual, ecumenical charitable initiative carried out in Poland primarily by Caritas, as well as by the Diakonia of the Evangelical Church of the Augsburg Confession and Eleos of the Orthodox Church. Its symbol is a Christmas Eve candle, which the faithful purchase ahead of Christmas.

Proceeds from the sale of the candles are allocated to supporting children in need—financing meals, medical treatment, rehabilitation, summer recreation, educational programs, and psychological assistance.

The initiative combines a spiritual and social dimension: it reminds people of the presence of those most in need during the Christmas Eve supper and encourages concrete, acts of solidarity-based assistance.
