Professor and Patriot: Przemysław Czarnek Named Law and Justice (PiS) Candidate for Prime Minister

Law and Justice (PiS) has revealed its cards ahead of the approaching battle for Poland’s future in 2027. Professor Przemysław Czarnek has been entrusted by party leader Jarosław Kaczyński with the mission of leading the party to victory as its candidate for prime minister. Below is a reminder of the profile of an outstanding lawyer, a resolute minister, and a politician who for years has uncompromisingly defended Polish and Christian values.

The selection of Przemysław Czarnek as the “electoral locomotive” of Law and Justice (PiS) sends a clear signal to right-wing voters. The party is betting on a distinctive leader, an excellent speaker, and a man who is not afraid to go against left-liberal trends. Who is the politician tasked with returning the United Right to power?

From Goszczanów to a professorship at the Catholic University of Lublin

Przemysław Czarnek was born on June 11, 1977, in Koło. Until the age of 15 he grew up in Goszczanów (in today’s Łódź Voivodeship), before moving to Lublin, the city with which he has been connected for almost his entire adult and professional life. He graduated from the prestigious Hetman Jan Zamoyski II High School and later began studies at the Faculty of Law, Canon Law and Administration at the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin.

It was at the Catholic University of Lublin that he built his academic career. In 2006 he defended his doctoral dissertation titled “The Principles of the Rule of Law and Social Justice in the Constitutional Practice of the Third Republic of Poland”, and in 2015 he obtained his habilitation based on a dissertation on economic freedom as a pillar of the social market economy. He specializes in constitutional law. Today, he is a professor at this university, which has played a distinguished role in Polish history.

An effective voivode and a record-breaking election result

Przemysław Czarnek’s political career gained momentum in December 2015, when then Prime Minister Beata Szydło appointed him Voivode of the Lublin region. At the time, he became known as an efficient administrator who worked closely with local governments while firmly defending historical memory and the interests of the region.

His work was quickly recognized by voters. In the 2019 parliamentary elections he ran for the Sejm and decisively outperformed his competitors, winning more than 87,000 votes in the Lublin constituency – the best individual result in the region. Since then he has continuously held a parliamentary mandate (9th and current, 10th term of the Sejm).

A minister defending the Polish school system

In October 2020, Przemysław Czarnek assumed one of the most demanding positions in the state – he became Minister of Education and Science in the government of Mateusz Morawiecki. He held this position until the end of the parliamentary term in 2023.

His tenure came during a difficult period, yet the politician consistently pursued a program aimed at reforming the Polish education system. As minister, he openly opposed the introduction of harmful left-wing and LGBT ideologies in schools, placing emphasis on traditional upbringing and the sovereignty of the family.

He initiated programs designed to broaden young people’s knowledge of Polish history, including the legacy of the Cursed Soldiers and the heritage of Saint John Paul II. For conservative circles, he became a guarantee that Polish schools would educate students in a spirit of patriotism. In 2025, he was promoted within the party’s structures, becoming a vice president of Law and Justice (PiS).

Faith, family and tradition

Przemysław Czarnek is a declared Catholic and has been married for many years to Katarzyna, who is also an academic employee of the Catholic University of Lublin.

Together they have raised two children: their daughter Julia and their son Mateusz.

In his free time, the politician is passionate about gardening and literature. He is also strongly involved in social activity and the cultivation of Polish traditions – he serves, among other roles, in the Gymnastic Society “Sokół” in Lublin and is the vice president of the local Catholic Intelligentsia Club.

Mission: victory

Today, in March 2026, as Poland faces challenges related to the government of Donald Tusk’s coalition, Law and Justice (PiS) is opting for a clear and distinctive leadership. The choice of Przemysław Czarnek as the party’s candidate for prime minister aims to fully mobilize right-wing voters. The politician has repeatedly demonstrated that he can confront the attacks of political opponents with substance and without fear. Now his task will be to unite the electorate and lead the party to ultimate victory.
