The Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Warsaw has filed an indictment against Antoni Macierewicz. The case concerns remarks he made from the parliamentary rostrum in September 2025. Politicians from Law and Justice (PiS) describe the prosecutor’s actions as another example of the government’s political campaign against the former Minister of National Defence.
The Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Warsaw announced that it had submitted an indictment against Antoni Macierewicz to the District Court for Warsaw-Śródmieście. The decision was announced on July 23.
The charges stem from a parliamentary speech delivered on September 11, 2025, during the 40th sitting of the Sejm. Prosecutors allege that, during his public address, Macierewicz insulted the head of the Military Counterintelligence Service (SKW), General Jarosław Stróżyk, as well as his deputies. He is also accused of defaming the SKW leadership by alleging that they cooperated with Russian intelligence services.
According to the prosecutor’s statement, the indictment includes charges under Article 226 §1 of the Polish Criminal Code in conjunction with Article 231a, as well as Article 212 §2 of the Criminal Code. The Regional Prosecutor’s Office noted that these offenses are punishable by a fine, restriction of liberty, or imprisonment for up to one year.
Representatives of Law and Justice (PiS) have described the indictment as another step in Prime Minister Donald Tusk’s government’s actions against opposition politicians. In their view, the proceedings are an act of political retribution.
