Two activists from Ostatnie Pokolenie (The Last Generation) attempted to stick the contents of a “draft bill” onto the monument of Marshal Józef Poniatowski. Officers from the Służba Ochrony Państwa (State Protection Service) responded quickly, detaining the young men.
Ostatnie Pokolenie had announced a few days earlier that, in a letter delivered to President-elect Karol Nawrocki, they demanded that “the first thing he does as the new president” be to submit their draft to the Sejm (lower house of parliament) as part of a presidential legislative initiative.
As usual, the eco-terrorists did not stop at mere appeals, seeking attention through familiar methods. On Friday morning, two men attempted to breach the grounds of the Kancelaria Prezydenta (Chancellery of the President of Poland). They were quickly apprehended after crossing the first barrier on Krakowskie Przedmieście (Krakowskie Przedmieście Street). Officers from the Służba Ochrony Państwa prevented them from proceeding further.
They Tried to Stick Things Again
“Before 6 a.m., two individuals crossed the chain into the area protected by the SOP. Officers then intervened. The individuals were handed over to the police, who verified their identities, and the procedure was concluded,” said Junior Asp. Jakub Pacyniak from the Śródmieście (City Center) Police Department.
In footage recorded by members of the organization, the two men can be seen wearing reflective vests and carrying a banner and printed sheets, which they intended to stick onto the monument located in the courtyard of the palace.
