“Poland needs a prime minister who thinks about our security, not one who casts himself in the role of Germany’s vice-chancellor,” wrote Prof. Przemysław Czarnek, the prime ministerial candidate of Law and Justice (PiS), on social media.
On Friday, the Pentagon announced a decision to withdraw around 5,000 American troops from Germany. The operation is to be carried out within the next 6-12 months. Asked before the weekend about the reasons for this decision, Donald Trump did not respond directly, but added that the number of U.S. troops in Germany would be higher than the mentioned figure.
A public debate has begun over where the American troops could be redeployed. One of the proposed directions is Poland. Although this has not yet been confirmed by any party, Prime Minister Donald Tusk assures that he does not intend to take actions that… could harm Germany.
“As a state, we probably should not be taking away (…). I will not allow Poland to be used in any way to undermine solidarity or cooperation at the European level,” he said during a press conference before departing from Armenia.
Tusk’s words are being criticized by the Polish right wing. His political camp, however, maintains that the statement was appropriate and justified.
Czarnek on Tusk: he casts himself as Germany’s vice-chancellor
The head of government’s remarks were addressed today on social media by Prof. Przemysław Czarnek – PiS candidate for prime minister.
“Poland needs a prime minister who thinks about our security, not one who casts himself in the role of Germany’s vice-chancellor,” he wrote on platform X.
