A session of the Radom City Council drew large crowds of residents opposing the establishment of a Foreigners’ Integration Center in the city. Member of Parliament Marek Suski announced a referendum initiative on the matter. The meeting was marked by heated debate.
Crowds of Radom residents gathered in the City Council chamber to express their opposition to the creation of a Foreigners’ Integration Center in the city.
Protesters attending the session carried banners bearing slogans such as: “Radom without post-German migrants” and “No to migrant sexual violence.” The atmosphere was at times tense, and numerous opposition MPs were also present.
“Where is the Mayor?”
residents chanted.
“At the outset, the numerous attendees expressed disappointment at the absence of the Mayor during the scheduled agenda item titled ‘Mayor’s Report’,” wrote MP Radosław Fogiel. The chant “Where is the Mayor?!” echoed throughout the chamber.
Several members of parliament addressed the session. “They will lie to us and claim that we will not receive illegal migrants. They will say that there will be no center in Radom. But the European Union says there will be forced relocation!” asserted MP Marek Suski (Law and Justice – PiS). He also pointed out the Mayor’s absence. “We can clearly see he is not here!” he added.
“They know they would have to lie to our faces that there will be migrants here. (…) Lies can take various forms,” Suski stated. He did not refrain from strong language, declaring: “We are governed by thieves.”
Suski proposed organizing a referendum concerning the establishment of the Integration Center, assuring that it would be a civic—not partisan—initiative. He emphasized concerns over the safety of Polish citizens.
“Let us not give in. Let us be a proud nation. Let us not be oppressed by those who have made migratory mistakes. Away with such policies—the policies of Tusk, the migration policy. Away with the politics of betrayal and subservience to Germany!”
Suski concluded.
“The fate of our children and grandchildren is at stake,” said MP Anna Kwiecień. The PiS parliamentarian emphasized that the Migration Pact had been adopted on December 20, 2023. “So that you wouldn’t notice, they entered the television studios that very same day,” she remarked.
“Why should we, Poles, have to work for this? Since Merkel invited them, let the Germans handle it!”
said Kwiecień.
