Rape of Policewoman, Drinking Binge at Station. PiS Leader to Those in Power: “Were We Not Supposed to Find Out?”

“An alcohol-fueled binge at the police station in Piaseczno? The rape of a policewoman? On the part of those in power – a conspiracy of silence,” wrote the president of Law and Justice (PiS), Jarosław Kaczyński, commenting on reports by TV Republika.

The District Court in Piaseczno ordered the three-month detention of one of the superiors in the Warsaw riot police. The officer was charged with raping a young policewoman and forcing her to submit to another sexual act – TV Republika revealed on Wednesday. The information was confirmed to the station’s journalists by the spokesperson of the Warsaw Regional Prosecutor’s Office, prosecutor Antoni Skiba. The scandal allegedly occurred during an alcohol-fueled binge at the company.

Apart from a formal social media post on the profile of the Warsaw Metropolitan Police Headquarters (KSP), both the police leadership and supervisors from the Ministry of the Interior and Administration (MSWiA) remain silent.

The opposition leader also spoke out on the matter, asking “An alcohol-fueled binge at the police station in Piaseczno? The rape of a policewoman? On the part of those in power – a conspiracy of silence. Were we not supposed to find out?”, and describing as a fiction “supervisory oversight, procedures and women’s safety.”

“The great silence of Commander Boroń”

Members of parliament from Law and Justice, Agnieszka Wojciechowska van Heukelom and Łukasz Kmita, launched an inspection regarding reports about the three-month detention of a high-ranking police officer suspected of raping a young female officer.

“The KSP statement speaks of an “incident.” For Mr. Kierwiński and Mr. Boroń, this policewoman’s tragedy is an “incident.” This situation must be explained. How are women who go to report crimes at police stations supposed to feel? Are they safe? – he asked during a briefing.

Kmita continued, saying “we see the great silence of Commander Boroń,” indicating that he wants to find out when the police chief received the information, how it circulated, and whether the policewoman immediately received support.

The MPs called on Minister Marcin Kierwiński to react, saying “let him not hide, let him come out of hiding,” and arguing that “the fish rots from the head.”
